My name is Kyle Gross and I am a silversmith here in Austin Texas. I have been working with silver and other metals for around ten years now and as of January 2011 I am creating in my studio full time.
My main focus throughout most of my life has been in the realm of visual arts. As a child and all the way up until well into college my primary outlet was drawing
and sketching. In college I began to steer more towards black and white photography and spent many a day taking pictures, developing film and then going straight into the darkroom to watch the magic develop in front of my eyes. After college I went to work for a professional photo lab here in Austin and, even as I continued work with my own fine art photography, I slowly began to turn towards jewelry design instead.
I started out designing and making pieces for friends and coworkers and it wasn't long before the love and passion that I had for designing mixed with the positive response that I received from my friends and a new career was born. At least a part time one was, and I have slowly built up new techniques and design ideas over the proceeding years and now, having finally gone full time, I am really feeling a new renaissance of ideas and a new sense of direction. I am excited about where the next ten years will take me and am ready for the trip.
I could not end this little bio without mentioning my wife Georgina, who is the driving force behind me taking those first baby steps and who continues to both support and encourage me every step of the way. So I thank her for putting up with me (no tall feat) and for doing all those behind the scenes things that really make it possible for me to do this.
